5 pcs Microwave Motion Detector Sensor for RCWL-0516 Module
Category: doppler radar
The Doppler radar microwave motion sensor module, utilizing the RCWL-9196 integrated circuit (IC), serves as a modern alternative to traditional PIR motion sensors like the HC-SR501 or HY-SRF05. This innovative sensor, equipped with the RCWL-9196 chip, has the capability to switch its output pin from a low state (0V) to a high state (3.3V) for a duration of 2 to 3 seconds whenever motion is detected. After this period, the output returns to a low state. The sensor can detect movement within a maximum distance of 7 meters, and it offers adjustable sensitivity and delay settings.
A key advantage of the RCWL-9196-based sensor is its ability to function effectively through glass and various other obstacles, outpacing the performance of conventional infrared (PIR) detectors. This makes it an excellent choice for a myriad of applications, such as DIY microwave motion sensor light switches, security systems, and human sensor toys.
For optimal sensitivity, the component side of the module should face the detection area. It is noteworthy, however, that the sensor is also capable of detecting motion from the rear side, albeit with reduced sensitivity. To ensure reliable operation, it is crucial to keep metal objects at least 1 cm away from the antenna.
The specifications of the sensor module are as follows:
- Operating Voltage: 4V to 28V, with a recommended range of 5V to 12V.
- Operating Current: Typically around 2.8mA, with a maximum of 3mA.
- Maximum Detection Distance: 7 meters.
- Transmitting Power: 20mW, with a maximum of 30mW.
- Output Control Levels: Low at 0V and high at 3.3V.
- Operating Temperature Range: -20°C to 80°C.
- Storage Temperature Range: -40°C to 100°C.
- Module Dimensions: 35mm x 17mm x 3mm.
The pin configuration for the RCWL-9196 module includes:
- 3V3: This pin outputs 3.3V and can serve either as a reference voltage or a low current power supply (under 100mA).
- GND: This is the ground connection.
- OUT: The control output pin that generates a high signal (3.3V) when motion is detected.
- VIN: Accepts input voltages ranging from 4V to 28V.
- CDS: Outputs from the CDS photodetector.
- C-TM: This pad regulates the repeat trigger timing, which defaults to 2 seconds without additional components. Adding an SMD capacitor here can extend the trigger duration. Depending on the frequency emitted from pin 3 of the IC, the trigger time can be calculated using the formula (1/f) * 32678.
- R-GN: The default detection range is set to 7m; however, using a 1M resistor can reduce this range to 5m.
- R-CDS: This pin connects the internal VCC in parallel with a 1M Ohm resistor to the CDS pin (pin 9 of the RCWL-9196).
In summary, this package includes five pieces of the Microwave Doppler Radar Motion Detector Sensor RCWL-0516 module board, leveraging the Doppler microwave induction technology of the RCWL-9196 chip. With a remarkable 7-meter detection capability and adjustable settings, this sensor stands out for its resilience against environmental factors, making it a worthy addition to any DIY project or security setup.
